Corrective Skin Peels FAQs

  • Which peels may be used on someone who exercises frequently?

Someone who is active may have any peel, but all peel patients must wait 48 hours after a treatment to exercise. If this is not an option, the Oxygenating Trio and Detox Treatment, and use the Ultra Peel® II Exfoliating Treatment which is an acid-free retinol cream. Its delayed flaking action will not cause irritation or downtime, and leaves the skin glowing and hydrated.

  • Can people who are frequently in the sun receive peels?

Yes, but only if they use (SPF) sunscreen protection every day. Sunbathing should be avoided due to increased risk of skin cancer and visible premature aging, but especially prior to treatments. Directly following treatment and while the skin is peeling. If you are receiving corrective peels to reduce the skin discoloration (Hyper Pigmentation) it is imperative to use the appropriate PCA SKIN’s Skin Brightening products, as well as a broad spectrum SPF product daily and avoid unnecessary sun exposure to reduce the chance of further hyper pigmentation.

  • I didn’t peel, did the treatment work?

PCA SKIN peels deliver excellent results whether or not visible peeling occurs. Exfoliation is at a cellular level and not apparent to the naked eye.  PCA SKIN professional treatments create a tighter, firmer complexion and appearance. They are formulated to preserve, promote and protect healthy skin, regardless of whether the patient sees visible exfoliation following treatment.

  • How long does it take?

Your first appointment will take about an hour and subsequent appointments will last about 30-45 minutes.

  • Can I get facial waxing and have a chemical peel the same day?

No, You Need To Either Be Waxed 7 Days Prior Or 7 Days Later. To Avoid Any Burns Or Skin Tearing.

  • Are there any treatments that are good for rosacea?

Medical Esthetics by Katie has a treatment designed specifically for rosacea that incorporates products from our Pumpkin Peel, Oxgenating Trio and Sensi Peel. It helps to unclog the pores, smooth the surface of the skin and promote healing. This treatment could be done as often as every four weeks.

  • Can pregnant or lactating women receive a peel?

No. Medical Esthetics by Katie recommends only the Oxygenating Facial Trio for pregnant or lactating women. But alway ask your doctor to make sure.

  • My skin is very thin. Why would I want to peel? Wouldn’t that make my skin thinner?

If your skin is dry and thin, often there is a buildup of dead cells that actually keeps your home care products from penetrating. Having a retinol treatment will remove the surface buildup, hydrate the skin and give it a more plump, "thicker" appearance. The use of Vitamin C products in the treatment, as well as in your home care program, will help to build the collagen in your skin, thus making it stronger and more durable.

  • What makes PCA SKIN peels unique?

PCA SKIN corrective peels are not timed, neutralized, and removed from the skin. Instead they are self-neutralizing and left on the skin, (with the exception of the masks) to break down surface buildup and loosen the desmosome bonds holding the keratinocytes together. In addition there is a customized application of serums with active ingredients that nourish, strengthen, and protect the skin.

  • How much discomfort should be expected during a peel?

The level of discomfort experienced depends on the treatment. Most PCA SKIN chemical peels are gentle and create minimal to no burning or stinging sensation in the skin. Dramatic wrinkling, sun damaged or acne scars may require a deeper peel, which may cause moderate stinging for a few minutes. Deep peels are not necessary for most skin types and conditions. PCA SKIN's superficial peels produce beautiful and immediate results with minimal discomfort for the majority of patients.
