  • Build Beautiful Skin with Bend Skincare

    Monday, July 18, 2016 - 7:29am

Clinically proven to help improve Anti-aging skin benefits.

As we age: Over time, the level of chronic inflammation and free radicals in the skin increases, which causes the collagen matrix to degrade faster than it is renewed. This results in the loss of firmness, elasticity, and the onset of fine lines, wrinkles, and skin sagging.

  • A Quick, Easy Way To Have Younger, Smoother Looking Skin!

    Monday, July 11, 2016 - 6:58pm

With the busy lives of most women, it’s easy to overlook a very simple and easy step for younger-looking skin, exfoliation. In fact, it’s the most overlooked step in skincare!

It’s also one of the most beneficial.

Weekly or twice weekly home exfoliation removes the top layer of dead skin and unclogs pores, making them look smaller. Nice, huh? To keep their appearance small, keep them unclogged with regular exfoliation.

What else can home exfoliation do for your skin?

  • Diet And Acne: Is There A Link?

    Sunday, June 12, 2016 - 10:24pm

Just like allergies, acne is the result of a weakened immune system. Yet, western medicine is not convinced that there is a link between acne and diet. You’ll find studies that discredit it, and others that make a strong case for it.

What’s interesting is that acne is considered a Western disease. It is virtually non-existent in non-westernized societies where refined carbohydrates and sugar are rarely eaten!

  • Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

    Tuesday, May 10, 2016 - 6:33am

Leaving moisturizer out of your routine today could lead to deeper wrinkles later on. When the skin barrier is compromised, which is what we see when it becomes dry, there's actually a low-grade chronic inflammation that occurs in the skin.

Low levels of ongoing inflammation ultimately lead to a breakdown of collagen and accelerated aging. Even if your skin type tends to be normal to oily, using a high-quality moisturizer on a regular basis can be the key to improving the way your skin looks and feels.

  • Is Coconut Oil Good for your skin?

    Saturday, April 16, 2016 - 6:10am

Coconut oil is antimicrobial and antifungal, it sounds like a dream come true for acne prone skin. But the issue lies in the composition of the oil. All natural oils are comprised of 2 acids: oleic acid and linoleic acid. Oleic acid is SUPER pore clogging and linoleic is not. Guess how high in oleic acid coconut oil is? It is one of the top dogs! No wonder it is such an issue!

  • “What Causes Broken Veins On My Face?”

    Sunday, April 10, 2016 - 8:38pm

Clients often ask me how they got red spots on their face, or tiny little broken veins. The answer is simple, over exposure to the sun.

Good Old Mr. Sun is very strong. And, if you aren’t careful, he has no qualms about leaving behind evidence of just how great and powerful he is! (Move over Wizard of Oz!)

Those tiny little veins around your nose, on your forehead, cheeks, eyelids, neck and upper chest are vulnerable to the sun’s rays. Too much of it and it weakens the elastic fibers in the walls, and they collapse.

  • I Challenge The “I Don’t Have Time To Get Good Skincare” Excuse!

    Sunday, March 27, 2016 - 6:33am

I get it. Almost every person on the planet is trying to find more time in his or her day.

So what happens? Skincare gets pushed to the back of the “to do” list, which usually means you’re on overload. See if any of these excuses sound familiar.

  • What do Peptides do for your skin?

    Tuesday, March 22, 2016 - 6:56am

Peptides are “messages” made from chains of amino acids and signal your skin to make more collagen.

One of the most popular signal peptide for cosmetic use is palmitoyl pentapeptide (Matrixyl) a neuropeptide that reduces fine lines very well. It can be found in many peptide skin care products and is quite effective in improving the appearance of fine lines and give your skin a more youthful appearance.

  • Are You Sure You Have Oily/Combination Skin?

    Tuesday, March 15, 2016 - 6:53am

Are You Sure You Have Oily Skin?

It’s not uncommon for women to tell me they have oily skin, when in fact, they actually have combination skin.

What’s the difference? Oily skin is oily all over—not just the t-zone. Combination skin types experience two skin conditions on their face, oily and normal or dry. It’s tricky and difficult.

While you may have to use lighter products in your t-zone and heavier products on your cheeks, exfoliation remains simple!

  • What is the best way to find a good Esthetician or Skin Therapist?

    Friday, February 19, 2016 - 6:02am

This is a good question. In most provinces and states, Estheticians, also Medical Estheticians, also sometimes called Facial Specialist, Skin Care Specialist, or Skin Therapist, are regulated by the State Board of Cosmetology. In Canada, only Nova Scotia has Licensed Estheticians, the rest of the country is unregulated and education is not required. Many States have websites so consumers can check to make sure their specialist is licensed. Sadly, Canada has nothing like this.

  • What are Telomeres?

    Wednesday, February 3, 2016 - 6:15am

    What are telomeres?
Telomeres are sections of DNA at the end of each chromosome that serve as a cap to your genetic material. Every time a cell replicates, its telomere will become shorter. Shorter telomeres imply a shorter life span for a cell.

Does diet have any effect on telomere length and repair?
