  • Drain & Nair?

    Monday, December 16, 2013 - 8:28am

We’re always looking for ways to cut back on beauty expenses, right?

Usually opting to do things ourselves using at home beauty products. What if I told you that the same chemical used in Nair to dissolve hair on your skin is used to unclog sinks? Drano’s main CHEMICAL, Sodium Hydroxide (Lye) can also be found in hair removal creams such as Nair…..Gasp. This is likely the cause of the burning, stinging, smelly nature of the cream. Next time you’re thinking about putting Nair on your lady parts, call the professionals.

  • Cetaphil: Why the Popular Cleanser Isn't Doing Your Skin Any Favors?

    Monday, November 4, 2013 - 1:02pm

    Melissa Gelula and Alexia Brue

Cetaphil probably has the best PR of any facial soap. Beauty magazines gush over it as a no frills $8 must-have. Dermatologists love to recommend it as a mild and non-irritating facial cleanser for two reasons: it doesn't contain fragrance and, more tellingly, because MDs have a big Pharma love affair with the manufacturer, Galderma, the offspring of Nestle and L'Oreal, which also makes acne drugs like Differin.

And yet there's nothing healthy about this face-washing prescription.

  • Common Myths about Sensitive Skin

    Thursday, October 31, 2013 - 12:29pm

    Common Myths

Myth: My skin is so sensitive that I can't use any soap or cleanser on my face without it getting irritated.

Fact: Soaps are highly alkaline and strip the skin of essential protective components. Using a gentle non-soap cleanser is your best choice for keeping skin free of dirt and debris without irritation.

Myth: All skin care products make my skin red or give me a rash, so I just use a natural brand from the drug store.
