Made me feel very comfortable
April is National Rosacea Awareness Month - What is Rosacea?
Do you suffer from rosacea? Or maybe you’re not sure you have rosacea, but you notice some of the typical signs of the common skin disorder:
- Sun Exposure
- Emotional Stress
- Hot/Cold Weather
- Intense Exercise
- Inflammatory Food (Wheat, Gluten, Dairy, Sugar)
- Spicy Food
- Indigestion or Leaky Gut
If you answered "yes" to at least 3 of these questions, you may be suffering from rosacea. Most people with the disease may not even know they have rosacea or that it is a diagnosable and treatable condition. Many clients may just assume they blush easily or have gotten sunburned.
What does Rosacea look like?
Rosacea characteristically involves the central region of the face, causing persistent redness or transient flushing over the areas of the face and nose that normally blush mainly the forehead, cheeks, the chin and the lower half of the nose. Rosacea also produces tiny bumps, pimples, and small visible veins under the surface of the skin. Rosacea has many symptoms including:
- Frequent red flushing of the center of the face which can cause burning and swelling of the skin.
- Inflamed, red eyelids and eyes.
- The areas affect by rosacea can cause the skin to become thicker.
- Small Red lines under the skin that occur when blood vessels swell and get larger. These areas can feel warm and swollen.
- A swelling of the nose, particularly in men, which can get bumpy, sore and red.
Minimizing exposure to, or better yet, avoiding these common triggers can help you avoid embarrassing Rosacea flare-ups. Along with doing that, exploring treatment options are an excellent way to help you keep the condition under control. These are the characteristics that can often be treated with MBK Clinical Skin Solutions Rosacea Management, LED Medi-Facials, IPL Photo Facials and Microneedling.
What is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a common skin condition that affects an estimated 14 million women and men in America. This condition presents a variety of symptoms from redness and flushing to papulopustular eruptions, and in the most severe cases, an overgrowth of tissue that may disfigure the nose. The redness can also appear in conjunction with dilated, visible capillaries or rash-like patches. In most extreme cases, eyes can become chronically irritated and watery. Affected flushed skin can feel sensitive, dry or sunburned—resulting in a burning or stinging sensation.
Though it’s not harmful to one’s health, rosacea affects the face. And as many might know first-hand, facial problems can be a cause for emotional stress and anxiety. For this reason, National Rosacea Society aims to educate the public about rosacea—emphasizing the importance of professional diagnosis and treatment. People need to know rosacea is a chronic disorder that can be effectively controlled with medical therapy and lifestyle modifications, which can substantially improve the quality of their lives.
National Rosacea Society reports that 76% of patients say that rosacea negatively affects their confidence and self-esteem, 41% have even confessed to missing work and social engagement because of their appearance. These numbers demonstrate just how important it is to get rosacea under control before it runs rampant and becomes more than cosmetically damaging.
