Do Thick Moisturizers Give More Hydration?
It’s a mistake I see all too frequently. Women with “dry” skin buy heavy, oil-based moisturizers because they think their skin is truly dry.
Initially, the heaviness feels good, relieving that tight, dry feeling. But a few hours later, the old problem returns. Why? It’s the wrong product! Truly dry skin actually flakes. It needs an oil-based moisturizer to replenish that missing ingredient in your skin.
On the other hand, dehydrated skin feels tight. A thick, heavy moisturizer will just sit on your skin for a few hours, providing only temporary relief, because it needs moisture, not oil.
Worse, these heavy moisturizers clog up your skin, dry it out and create more wrinkles! That’s why oil-based moisturizers are rarely the answer.
Because the skin is a complex organ, it takes close examination to understand what it’s asking for. The epidermis is the key to a healthy skin barrier and skin is made up partly of essential fats, which create a waterproof barrier that seals in moisture to keep skin lubricated and protected against harmful bacteria. Your skin requires 3 things in balance to maintain our skin barrier.
- Fatty Acids (25%)
- Cholesterol (25%)
- Ceramides (40%)
