Made me feel very comfortable
Dermaplaning is the trendy Skin Rejuvenation treatment TODAY!
Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, and Cleopatra all shaved their faces.
Caroline Manzo (ex-RHONJ) shaves her face too!
More and more lately, stories about facial shaving for women have been trending throughout television and social media. At-home facial shaving, as well as professional dermaplaning, are not new procedures, but have been around for decades.
Dermaplaning is a safe (performed by Certified Medical Esthetician) non-invasive procedure which uses a sharp sterilized No. 10 surgical scalpel blade is gently feathered over the skin surface at a 45-degree angle to gently scrape the outer layers of dead, dull skin cells. Dermaplaning is a physical exfoliation which triggers the cell regeneration process and allows makeup to go on smoother and skin care products to better penetrate skin. Combining dermaplaning with other services, for instance, enzyme masks, corrective peels etc. can further enhance these treatments efficiency.
Dermaplaning is also excellent to rid the face of excess fine hairs which can often accumulate dirt and oil. Contrary to popular belief, vellus hairs (peach fuzz), as opposed to terminal hair, will not grow back thicker or darker. The hair will grow back at the same rate and texture as it did before.
Benefits of having Dermaplaning:
- Promotes smoother skin
- Removes soft facial hair that traps dirt and oil.
- Dermaplanning enhances the effectiveness of other skin care treatments such as chemical peels and enzyme masks by providing deeper product penetration.
- Reduces recent acne scars
- Preferred method of facial hair removal for those that are either using home products with anti-aging ingredients (ie. Retinols, AHAs, BHAs, etc) or are getting other facial treatments that involve peeling and/or sensitivity.
- Reduces fine lines
- Produces immediate results with no downtime
Worried about removing facial Hair?
There are two types of hair on the human body, terminal and vellus hair:
Terminal Hairs - are the thick pigmented hairs that grow by the influence of hormones (legs, armpits, scalp, pubic area, etc).
Vellus Hairs - are fine translucent hairs usually found on a woman’s face, back or chest. Unlike terminal hairs, when vellus hairs are cut they grow back with the same thickness and length as before, only with a blunt tip and are expected to return in approximately two to four weeks post procedure. Removal of the vellus hair has more than just an aesthetic benefit.
What’s the difference between Shaving and Dermaplaning?
People often think that they are one in the same - they are not. Dermaplaning is performed by trained Certified Medical Esthetician using a surgical scalpel on tautly stretched skin. Most razors have two blades at a 25 degree angle and are much duller than a surgical blade. Dermaplaning requires short strokes at a 45 degree angle in particular patterns depending on the facial region and resurfaces skin on a much deeper and more effective level than shaving.
